Clean energy in Poland surpassed coal for the first time

In June 2025, Poland generated more electricity from renewable sources than from coal for the first time. Green energy accounted for 44.1% of the energy mix, while the share of coal dropped to 43.7%. The rest came from natural gas.It was also the first time that coal contributed less than half of total electricity production in a quarter. According to the think-tank Forum Energii, this is a significant breakthrough that may have a long-term impact on Poland’s energy sector.Meanwhile, the government of Donald Tusk is supporting the construction of wind farms and the country’s first nuclear power plant.
